Deep Freeze Festival is the celebration of the Ukrainian, French Canadian, Franco-African, Indigenous (Métis, Inuit, Cree), Latin American and Asian cultures and traditions that have enriched our communities. This year the streets of the Alberta Avenue District are shut down and transformed into an enchanted forest. Let your imagination wander as you discover magic around every corner from endless activities, live performances and cultural experiences. This year the festival is filled with the delight of light installations, ice sculptures, cultural stories, horse & wagon rides, ice slides, Viking reenactments, Pipon Village, an artisan market, street hockey, fire pits, and the famous annual Deep Freezer races. This year, the warm winter weather has brought many Edmontonians to the festival since January in Edmonton is usually as cold as -40 degrees Celsius.
Deep Freezer Races
The famous annual Deep Freezer races are always a crowd-pleaser, especially when local celebrities, politicians, councilors, and emergency personnel join in on the fun. You are for a treat if you haven't seen a Deep Freezer Race. Imagine sitting in an empty freezer on skis and someone pushing you down a snow-covered street in a race. Are you brave enough to join in?
Pipon Village
Explore your inner voyager by taking a trek through Pipon Village in pair of snow shoes. Let your feet rest as you sit around an open fire, indulge in the bannock and tea, and listen to stories.
Winter festivals like this are only possible because our hard-working staff and volunteers donate countless hours. Let's thank them by coming out and supporting businesses in our community.
